The Virtual English Club was established at the beginning of the academic year 2020/2021.
The founders of the English Club are instructors Laila Abu-Sharkh and Eman Abdelati, with cooperation from the English instructors at the Language Center.
There are Club committees responsible for organizing a variety of activities; including discussion meetings, debates, competitions and games, community service and the annual newsletter.
The organizational chart of the Club consists of Club supervisors, the Head of the Club, Club coordinators and club members.
Club members include students from several University Faculties, who are interested to improve their English communication skills, become involved in extra-curricular activities as well as community service.
Extra-curricular Activities
The general page of the English Club on Microsoft Teams witnessed hundreds of educational and entertaining posts, published by the English instructors and the Club members.
A Facebook page was established to enhance electronic communication between University students and other people.
The English Club has organized a variety of activities, including discussion meetings, debates, entertaining shows as well as a movie night.
Community Service Achievements
- Sessions
There were THREE sessions that hosted outstanding speakers and interested guests from Jordan and other countries, including the United States of America, Canada and Palestine.
The topics discussed in these sessions involved English teaching methods (S.I.O.P), emotional intelligence and lifestyle in Canada.
- A Speaking Course
In the last week of March, instructors Eman and Laila organized a course titled "Let's Meet Everywhere and Speak English" for University students as well as students from other academic institutions. The aim of the training course was to improve English speaking skills.
- Charity in Ramadan
English Club members cooperated with "Mujaddedoun" at PU to achieve a remarkable community service in the Holy Month of Ramadan.
I am personally proud to confirm that the English Club can be considered as an iconic achievement added to the online experience at Philadelphia University in 2020/2021.
