Our History and Identity
Origin of the Name
The choice of the name "Philadelphia University" revives a cultural heritage that brings distinction and pride to Jordan. Philadelphia is the ancient name for the city of Amman, also known as Rabbath Ammon, which was named by the ruler Ptolemy Philadelphus in 285 BC. The name means "brotherly love."
