About the Center
The Avicenna Center for E-Learning was established in 2003 with the participation of UNESCO and support from the European Commission, along with fifteen universities from Mediterranean basin countries: Algeria, Cyprus, France, Britain, Egypt, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Malta, Morocco, Palestine, Spain, Syria, Tunisia, and Turkey. Philadelphia University is the only university in Jordan hosting such a center - the Avicenna Center.
The Avicenna Center project is considered one of UNESCO's most important major projects. The UNESCO Executive Board and General Conference endorsed the idea of extending the Avicenna project to the African continent. The Avicenna project in Iraq is also an extension of the Avicenna network in the Mediterranean basin region. UNESCO has accredited Philadelphia University for training on the production and creation of e-courses for neighboring countries.
Training workshops on creating e-courses continue at the Center, with participants from neighboring countries and UNESCO-accredited training experts.
