قسم التكنولوجيا الحيوية وهندسة الجينات يواكب التطورات الحديثة في أبحاث الجينوم البشري والأمراض النادرة بالتعاون مع مراكز بحثية علمية عالمية ومحلية
انسجاماً مع رسالة جامعة فيلادلفيا ورسالة قسم التكنولوجيا الحيوية وهندسة الجينات فيما يتعلق بتشجيع البحث العلمي وخدمة المجتمع المحلي، فإن قسم التكنولوجيا الحيوية وهندسة الجينات يتعاون مع جامعات ألمانية (ليبزغ وتوبنجن و إيرلانجن) وجامعات أمريكية (تكساس و كولمبيا) وأخرى محلية (مؤتة واليرموك) وكذلك الخدمات الطبية الملكية / مستشفى الملكة رانيا العبدلله لتحديد المورثات والطفرات المسببة للأمراض النادرة التي تصيب الجهازين العصبي والعضلي وأمراض نقص المناعة في المجتمع الأردني. إن تحديد هذه الطفرات يساهم في فهم هذه الأمراض، ويساعد الأطباء في تصميم العلاجات الموجه للأفراد، وتوجيه العائلات لطرق منع تكرار الإصابة في الأجيال المتعاقبة .
هذا وقد تم الإعلان عن الانتهاء من تأسيس قاعدة بيانات المتغيرات الوراثية والطفرات المسببة للأمراض كجزء من المنظومة الحاسوبية (Pipeline) لتحليل تسلسلات الأحماض النووية (DNA و RNA) الناتجة من تقنية (Next Generation Sequencing). علماً بأن الباحثين في الجامعة على استعداد للتعاون مع الأطباء المتخصصين من القطاعين العام والخاص لتحديد الطفرات في الحالات المستعصية.

Knowledge and Understanding:
KP1 Understand and recognize the biochemical, molecular and cellular structure of organisms and biological systems.
KP2 Understand concepts, applications and regulations of the existing and emerging methods of biotechnology and the role of bio-entrepreneurs in the successful commercial innovations.
KP3 Understand the molecular techniques including: immunological techniques, gene cloning, polymerase chain reaction, DNA sequencing, gene editing, blotting and nucleic acids hybridizations along with the basic skills of laboratory organization and management.
KP4 Understand the basic principles of heredity in particular the inheritance patterns of human traits and its implication on human health and possible gene therapy.
KP5 Define basic concepts in microbial biotechnology and ecology for biodegradation and bioremediation of pollutants, fermentation kinetics, metabolite excretion and production of biological ingredients for industries.
KP6 Conceptualize the fundamentals of computer programs and databases and their applications in research, medicine and biotechnology.
Intellectual, Professional and Practical skill:
SP1 Demonstrate ability and responsibility in using, preserving and maintaining laboratory equipment's necessary in the applications of biotechnology and related fields.
SP2 Investigate and analyze the role of heredity and molecular genetics in a wide range of application.
SP3 Demonstrate proficiency; establish, maintain and preserve cell and tissue.
SP4 Use the appropriate computational tools and databases to make sense of the molecular data (DNA, RNA and Protein).
SP5 Practicing time management, balancing workload, implementing and following biosafety regulations, designing, managing and running biological laboratories and biotech firms

CP1 Recognize the use of biotechnology to study, monitor and treat diseases and alter food and environment.
CP2 Demonstrate critical thinking skills utilize a wide range of information sources and communicate through oral presentations and written reports.
