Comprehensive Description of Bachelor's Program Courses in Interior Design

This course includes the study of ancient architecture beginning from Egyptian civilization, Mesopotamia, Greek civilization through Roman and Byzantine periods. It includes identifying the various influences that affected the development of design and architectural thought of these civilizations and the ability to critique and analyze them.

This course includes the study of the philosophy, origins, emergence and development of Islamic art and architecture, its most important characteristics and principles upon which it is based, and following the most prominent artistic styles through successive eras and various regions. It includes implementing some practical applications that include the art of decoration, Arabic calligraphy, and some architectural elements through studying these styles.

This course includes the study of design elements and principles with emphasis on the structural concept of two-dimensional design as well as studying the principles of abstract composition and their distribution on spatial surfaces to organize them visually for students, developing creative and expressive abilities.

This course includes the study of three-dimensional design elements and principles, understanding the relationship between mass and space, shaping and linking them with architectural and design works, by training students to analyze work elements, study their relationships with each other, and compose them in design.

This course includes learning about different drawing tools and materials and methods of using them, and implementing manual exercises for drawing nature and its design and architectural elements, as well as drawing different scenes of models showing continuous movement derived from aspects of daily life in cities, villages, and others.

This course includes introducing students to the concept of beauty, its nature and philosophy by following the most prominent philosophical schools in this field (aesthetics), as well as addressing the most important artistic concepts and studying the most important opinions of philosophers of aesthetics and their different viewpoints. It also introduces the principles of sociology and environmental psychology as a basis for human behavior, mutual influences between humans and the environment, and how to translate social and psychological behavior into design and architecture.

This course includes learning about technical drawing tools and materials and methods of using them, implementing manual exercises and drawing lines, curves, two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes, in addition to how to draw architectural engineering plans necessary to illustrate design ideas.

This course includes a historical study of the emergence and development of interior design and its fundamentals, including identifying the various influences that affected the course of design through different eras, starting from ancient and medieval civilizations up to modern developments in the field and their design trends in the twentieth century.

This course includes introducing students to the method of drawing three-dimensional scenes from reality onto a two-dimensional flat surface at a certain drawing scale (reduced or enlarged), and introducing students to methods of drawing different perspective projections and drawing architectural spaces from inside and outside with shadow and lighting formed by rays falling from a natural or artificial light source.

This course includes tracking various theories in design that emerged after the Industrial Revolution and focuses on comparing traditional and modern methodologies in an analytical and critical manner. In addition to studying the appropriate methodology in the design process and methods of creative design thinking.

This course includes training students on computer software specialized in interior design such as AutoCAD two-dimensional and three-dimensional programs, focusing on different tools and commands and the extent of their use in interior design processes with two-dimensional and three-dimensional exercises representing the various techniques of the program.

This course includes introducing the physical properties of various materials used in interior design, their employment methods and techniques, including wood, metals, stones, marble, glass, and plastics, in addition to partitions and interior structures, quantity calculation and cost estimation.

This course addresses the study of human movement, body proportions and their impact on interior space dimensions, and the dimensions of furniture and equipment used inside buildings.
