College of Information Technology – Overview

The College of Information Technology aims to graduate highly qualified professionals equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to keep pace with the continuous advancements in information technology, which has become a vital part of our daily lives. Developed societies face rapid changes in software production, which is now a key driver of social activity across various fields. The growing demand for developing or updating software has become essential for institutions in both the public and private sectors to help bridge the digital divide.

The College of Information Technology was established in the academic year 2000–2001 with three academic departments designed to meet the needs of both local and global job markets. The study plans were carefully prepared to ensure high academic standards.

In the academic year 2022–2023, the college includes the following departments:

  • Software Engineering (SE)
  • Computer Science (CS)
  • Information Security and Cybersecurity
  • Data Science and Artificial Intelligence

The bachelor's programs offered by the college aim to:

  1. Train students to serve institutions in both the public and private sectors.
  2. Provide the essential national workforce required in the field of information management and technology.
  3. Support scientific research in areas of information technology that contribute to advancing administrative and scientific studies.
  4. Offer consultative services to governmental and non-governmental institutions by studying applications used to solve complex problems.
  5. Prepare graduates to face challenges within their fields and professional environments.

The college features an advanced infrastructure that includes modern classrooms and specialized laboratories equipped with a large number of up-to-date computers to keep pace with evolving software technologies. These laboratories are connected through local networks linked to the internet. In addition, the research project laboratories are highly advanced and include a software incubator to support student projects.

The college also hosts several specialized labs, including:

  • A Cisco networking lab
  • A multimedia lab
  • A UNIX lab
  • Programming and computer applications labs
  • Advanced cybersecurity labs
  • A graduate studies lab for the Software Engineering Department

Furthermore, the college contains large conference halls, seminar rooms, meeting rooms for department councils, and a dedicated hall for the College Council.

The college is committed to strengthening cooperation with industry and international experts by organizing peer-reviewed international conferences and engaging with industrial institutions in the Kingdom. This is accomplished through field visits that allow students to connect theoretical knowledge with real-world applications. Such visits help create employment opportunities for graduates by familiarizing them with the labor market.

To ensure an excellent academic staff, the college provides scholarships for outstanding graduates to pursue doctoral degrees at prestigious international universities in fields needed by the college.

Graduates of the college now hold distinguished positions in institutions and departments involved in developing information technology both inside and outside the Kingdom. It is also worth noting that the college has ranked first among ICT colleges in the Kingdom, having received the Al-Hussein Fund for Excellence Award.

As the Dean of the College of Information Technology at Philadelphia University, I warmly welcome all students—both within the college and beyond—as well as public and private institutions. I invite you to visit the college website, and we are always ready to receive suggestions that contribute to enhancing the educational process.
