Department Overview and Work Plan

The University Requirements Support Unit Department seeks to expand its range of specializations by proposing new programs over the next five years. The Humanities Department has successfully established the Development Studies specialization, which has since become an independent department. The department has also proposed the introduction of a History of Jerusalem course, and has worked on developing existing courses including Civic Education, Human Thought and Civilization, and Introduction to Psychology, in addition to enhancing teaching methodologies.

Strategic Goals of the Department
- Expanding the range of specializations offered by the department.
- Deepening scientific research and fostering research collaboration with organizations concerned with sustainable development in the Arab world.
- Activating cooperation with research centers around the world.
- Encouraging colleagues within the department to increase their scientific and research activity.
- Collaborating with local organizations to hold workshops and conferences addressing contemporary issues.

Work Plan for 2018–2019
- Regarding new course development: follow up on the introduction of the History of Jerusalem course.
- Regarding faculty: recruit distinguished faculty members for the 2019–2020 academic year.
- Raising student awareness and cultural literacy by focusing on the Civic Education and Human Thought and Civilization courses, publishing the second edition of the "Civic Education" textbook, and preparing the "Human Thought and Civilization" textbook by the end of the academic year.
- Enhancing the quality of curricula and ensuring students have access to up-to-date materials that keep pace with scientific developments, while implementing the plan actively throughout the current academic year.
